We celebrated both August and September birthdays due to our summer break. The smaller group are August birthday and the medium size group are the September birthdays including this month’s charity representative, Hannah Grubbs. The large group is everyone… why not?
Speaking of Hannah, she got a standing ovation after informing us of her charity, Bows & Ballcaps. She was a hard act to follow, but Randy Campbell, founder of Sumner Teen Center did a great job. The center is the beneficiary of this year’s Garlands & Glitter and he presented his very worthwhile organization.
Our speaker this month was Dr. William “Billy” Teets, the outreach astronomer at Vanderbilt University’s Dyer Observatory. His presentation was so compelling that there is talk of a field trip out his way this fall. If you are interested, let Mary Lou Winn know and we’ll see if we can put it together!
We honored six women who have been Newcomer Members since the beginning, twenty six years ago, with special recognition of Margaret Alexander, a proud 94 years old! Hope we’re all still Newcomers when WE are 94!
Thank you Lynda Evjen for pinch hitting for President Cheryl Sherwood who’s on grandbaby watch out in Las Vegas. Enjoy the photos!
