Gallatin Parks and Recreation plans to convert one of the city’s softball fields into an all-inclusive park that would be accessible for children and adults with special needs. The department has already begun 3fundraising efforts for the Gallatin Miracle Park, which would be built across from the soccer complex at Triple Creek Park. The project would include a miracle field, inclusive playground and a peddle park for children to learn how to ride a bike safely. It would be the first one of its kind in the city, according to David Brown, director of Gallatin Parks and Recreation.

There are more and more people who have a need for this and everybody has realized that we need to do more,” Brown said about the project. “This would not only be for kids, but it would be for all ages.”

The miracle field would be wheelchair accessible and feature an artificial turf field without dirt or raised bases while the inclusive playground would feature wheelchair swings, an easy-to-ride zipline, merry-go-round, game board and musical instruments, among other features.

The Gallatin Miracle Park is estimated to cost between $1.5 and $2 million, which would include sidewalks, bathrooms, bleachers, scoreboard, concession stand and landscaping, in addition to the miracle field, inclusive playground and peddle park, according to Brown.

Proceeds from our Money Tree Fundraiser will help support the vital work of our chosen charity of the month. Please join in this effort by purchasing candy from Sharyn Evans, Fundraising Director, at our March Luncheon. Depending on how much candy you buy, you will receive free raffle tickets. It will support a great cause and you may win $50 in the drawing!

The April meeting will be held at the Hampton Inn on Saundersville Road and info will go out. We are hoping to have all details nailed down soon and look forward to a little change in the location for April. April also is the month we have the nominating committee appointed, so, if you or anyone you know wants to be on the Newcomers Board, please let me or Carol Gower know and June will be here before you know it. NOTE” If you have website or computer knowledge, please let Jane Birckhead knows as she would like to have a partner and someone to help with the website. Just contact her at newcomers.art@gmail.com.
