A Message from the President

Happy Fall Y’all! I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of fall, and looking forward to cooling weather for a while.

We’ve had our first luncheon of our 2016/2017 season, and it was a great event. We had a great turnout, a delicious lunch, and an interesting speaker. I hope those of you that attended enjoyed it, and for those of you that weren’t there, please consider joining us in the future. Even if a specific topic or speaker doesn’t tickle your fancy, it is still a wonderful opportunity to enjoy socializing, eat a good meal, and maybe win some prizes.

Our October luncheon will feature Wayne Shick, of Wayne’s Keyboard Studio. He’ll talk about how music may make us healthier, and in looking forward to Halloween, we’ll have our now 2nd annual witch’s hat contest. Get creative, make a hat, and bring it or wear it to our luncheon. It should be lots of fun, please join us on October 13th .

I’ve mentioned for the past several months the work going on to produce our fourth annual Garlands and Glitter Fashion Show. This year’s event is shaping up to be one of the best! Dillard’s will be once again handling the fashions, and we have some local dignitaries as well as some Newcomers members lined up as models. The event will be held at Blue Grass County Club on November 4th, and our committee is working with the chef there to insure a culinary delight will be served. As in past years, you’ll have the opportunity to shop before the event starts, and this year Dillard’s is offering “early bird” shopping starting at 5:00. They’ll even have a special door prize drawing for people who shopped and purchased between 5:00 and 6:00. Mark the date on your calendar, it is a fabulous event and you don’t want to miss it. You can purchase tickets at our October luncheon, or by calling Kay Rorick or Mary Ellen Lozier.

On another note, if you haven’t looked at our website lately, please do. It’s at NewcomersSumner.org. Our new Webmaster, Jane Birckhead, has taken our website to a professional level, and it is looking great. You can use the newsletters, calendar, and the website to keep up with what is happening in Newcomers. And if for some reason you don’t get the newsletter one month, or can’t find the one you got, the most recent newsletter is always on the website.
